5 Common Mistakes that Reduces the SEO Impact of Pinterest to Your Site

1.  Not Paying Attention to Your Pinterest Profile

It is understandable that you are eager to start using Pinterest and find the part about actually creating a Pinterest profile boring. Boring though it may be, it is important from an SEO view point. Google bots can crawl Pinterest profiles and incomplete profiles don’t rank well. And precisely for this reason, you should optimize your Pinterest ‘about’ description with keywords, making it easier for search engines to display your profile in response to the relevant search queries.

2. Leaving Image File Names As Is

Cameras create unique file names for images that are practically useless for you when you pin them on your boards. Don’t forget to edit the image file name to incorporate your keyword, product or brand name, so that it offers greater SEO traction and results in higher search ranking for the pins.

3. Creating the Pin Description in a Hurry

In your eagerness to pin your image and start getting more ‘pins’ for it, don’t compromise on the description of your pins. You get a generous 500 character limit for this and make sure you optimize your descriptions with apt keywords. This ensures that your pins rank higher when relevant terms are searched.

It is also a good idea to include relevant details like price (if it is a product), so that click thrus increase, driving traffic to your website and further enhancing your search ranking.

4. Have You Categorized Your Boards?

Pinterest offers categories for your boards. And when you are pinning an image to newly created board, (rather than an existing one), the new board remains uncategorized. Don’t forget to go back to your profile page and categorize it aptly. Right categorization greatly increases the chances of your boards showing up when people search with the ‘browse by category’ option. And while you are at it, make sure you have keyword rich titles for your boards to further boost SEO.

5. Being Invisible to Search Engines

The whole point of getting on Pinterest is to enhance your search rankings and this won’t work if your pins are invisible to search engines. Did you know Pinterest has an option that lets you hide your profile and pins from search engines. Get back to your settings and make sure that this feature is turned OFF.

Great article One little that has worked for me is to have a lot of boards on different subjects and within those boards put 2-3 pins about you business. Also invite people who have a good following in your niche to contribute to your board. Please check my boards out for a example. http://pinterest.com/muscleover40/
